More on power animals

Animals of Spirit, Power and Totem have been a part of every major religion for centuries. The Greeks spoke to spirits and gods through oracles. The Ancient Native Americans imitated animals in dance and ceremonial rituals to establish links to the spirit world.

The earliest recorded traditions teach that each person comes into life existence with one or more animal guides from the spirit world.

It is also believed that the person and their “life-long” spirit totem animals share a spiritual, energetic connection in which the animals serves as an ally, guide, teacher, protector, and a source of power throughout the person’s life.
“If you talk to the animals, they will talk with you and you will know each other. If you do not talk to them, you will not know them, and what you do not know you will fear. What one fears, one destroys.” ~ Chief Dan George

T is for Tiger

Tiger -- For quieting the mind and coming into the pure, raw awareness and power of the present moment. Supports one in becoming strong and focused.
Nurtures a sense of spiritual strength and mastery.
For cultivating an unwavering mind and for acting with power and clarity from one's highest place.
Inspires right action when faced with opposing or difficult choices

Shamanic Healing & Soul Retrieval's photo.

The Siberian Tiger is the largest of all the big cats with their bodies growing up to twelve feet long and their tails adding another three feet to their overall length.
Watching these beautiful creatures, the strength and power they possess is very much in evidence in their rippling muscles.
Large paws carry impressive claws that are usually kept sheathed until either grasping a prey animal or delivering a lethal blow to an enemy. Such formidable power is contained within a musculature that has been designed to assure this cat’s ranking at the top of their food chain.

For the two-legged (human/soul) beside whom Tiger stalks, the sheathed claws and defined muscles can transform in the space of a heartbeat from fluid, casual movement to a powerful burst of energy, this is quite symbolic of the human counterpart’s same power that is most often kept in check. These individuals possess an amazing reservoir of energy that is frequently held in reserve for times when it is genuinely needed, yet when circumstances warrant the release of this wellspring, they can tackle a problem, crisis or challenge with a focused intensity that can only be equated to a Tiger’s leap.

When very young, the Tiger soul learns to contain such raw power. This contained energy can present itself as an intense gaze and quietly studious demeanor that may intimidate others, as though the eyes of the Tiger are capable of peering into one’s very soul.

Such intensity can drive others away as the one beside whom the Tiger journeys can often appear as aloof or disinterested. Nothing can be further from the truth however, as although they may seem insensitive or detached, these are the souls that desire to experience all of life’s intricacies and adventures, yet it is only as they mature and gain confidence in themselves that their more exuberant side is let free to play and explore.

When operating from Lower Personality, such raw power can be utilized for extremely selfish ends with the Tiger individual seeking to further his/her own agenda regardless of the cost to both others around them, and to their soul’s own progress. In this scenario, the energy is then released in volcano blasts and whirlwinds, obliterating all who stand in the path of the tiger. Or the reverse may be true and the two-legged with this magnificent Animal Spirit may be intimidated by their own exceptionally powerful emotions and desires, stuffing or denying such feelings, which results in many frustrations and denial of the true Self as an end result of such repression.

As the Tiger Soul grows, matures and evolves, a balance is found between releasing their indomitable energies and maintaining an awareness of the feelings of those around them. When the two-legged can embrace, without fear, their own Power and utilize it for the benefit of both themselves and others, the Light Force of their Will shines forth to light the pathway for others who journey the path of Self-Knowledge and Discovery.

One of the most moving experiences of my life was the first sighting 2 tigers in the forest in India a few years ago.

Legend of the ravens

This was against the wishes of his astronomer, John Flamsteed, who complained that the ravens impeded the business of his observatory in the White Tower.

Despite their having one wing trimmed, some ravens do in fact go absent without leave and others have had to be sacked.
Raven George was dismissed for eating television aerials, and Raven Grog was last seen outside an East End pub....so they say

P- for Peacock

Peacock,-
 Universal symbol of resurrection.
The ability to see the connection between the past, the present and the future and its loud and raucous call, almost like laughter, reminds us to laugh at life.
The peacock's feather in all ages has been considered as a sign of beauty and knowledge; beauty because it is beautiful, knowledge because it is in the form of,the all seeing eyes of the goddess 'Hera'

Peacocks are revered around the globe and have been for centuries:

It is believed that a peacock (sometimes a pair of peacocks) stands guard at the entrance to the Gates of Paradise. They are also a symbol of the immortality of Christ.

In Buddhist iconography, peacocks are symbols of wisdom. They are compared to the great Bodhisattvas for their ability to consume poisonous plants without being affected, just as a Bodhisattva is capable of taking in the toxins of human emotion while still attaining Enlightenment.

Native American cultures view the peacock as a symbol of dignity, wholeness, and beauty.

In Greek mythology the peacock is associated with Hera, who placed the decapitated head of the hundred-eyed Argus on the tail of her favorite bird. It is seen to symbolize the heavens and the “eyes” of the stars.

The peacock is associated with the Hindu deity that represents benevolence, patience, kindness, compassion, and luck. It is also the national bird of India.

In Japan, the peacock is associated with an emblem of love, compassionate watchfulness, good will, nurturing, and kind-heartedness.

Nightingale

Soft tempered, good speaker, smooth movement and voice, keeper of the night.

When a nightingale appears it is there to teach you the healing power of song and to move through fear and shadow with grace.

The sweet song of the Nightingale gives inspiration as a harbinger of a personal dawn.
She guides one into seeing the importance in the connection to old beliefs and thoughts.
It is time to take authority over your mind.
She teaches the nocturnal song and brings to the light what is mysterious and hidden.
What is learned in the "night' is to be incorporated into the "day".

She shows how to move throughout different consciousness and use inspirations of higher realms while keeping grounded.

Nightingale balances masculine and feminine energies along with balancing dietary elements.
It is time to sing loudly - above the cacophony of the mind chatter and above what others think and say. Timid and shy at times, she can show how to act with grace and elegance.
In regards to parental love, timidity changes to a brave ferocity.
Nightingale will show the balance between the two. Are you sharing what you know,?

"A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square"

When two lovers meet in Mayfair, so the legends tell,
Songbirds sing; winter turns to spring.
Every winding street in Mayfair falls beneath the spell.
I know such enchantment can be, 'cos it happened one evening to me:

That certain night, the night we met,
There was magic abroad in the air,
There were angels dining at the Ritz,
And a nightingale sang in Berkeley Square.

I may be right, I may be wrong,
But I'm perfectly willing to swear
That when you turned and smiled at me
A nightingale sang in Berkeley Square.

The moon that lingered over London town,
Poor puzzled moon, he wore a frown.
How could he know we two were so in love?
The whole darn world seemed upside down

The streets of town were paved with stars;
It was such a romantic affair.
And, as we kissed and said 'goodnight',
A nightingale sang in Berkeley Square

When dawn came stealing up all gold and blue
To interrupt our rendezvous,
I still remember how you smiled and said,
"Was that a dream or was it true?"

Our homeward step was just as light
As the tap-dancing feet of Astaire
And, like an echo far away,
A nightingale sang in Berkeley Square

I know 'cos I was there,
That night in Berkeley Square.

Do you know of any folk tales associated with nightingale?

M is for Monkey

Help me to see truth in all situations
With my spiritual eyes.
Teach me to hear Otherworld messages
With my spiritual ears.
Bring to me food for the soul from the gods
That my spiritual body may be nourished.

A person who has Monkey as a spirit animal is gifted with valuable qualities.

Monkey teaches us a fascinating lesson about movement and the connection between movement and ego: mental and physical flexibility, occult knowledge dealing with the maintenance of physical health and mental balance through movement, much like yoga.
The Orangutan as a totem animal teaches how to cross over quarrels and settle differences (here too, the key words are flexibility and maintaining balance).

Monkey totem also teaches us a lesson of balance between black and white, our dark side and the light.

L is for Lion

Lion -- For claiming one's deepest personal authority and spiritual power.
Nurtures a sense of well being and strength, and supports one in connecting with the inner archetypes of King/Queen.
Helps one to develop courage and to face fears. Nurtures and enhances self-confidence. Encourages leadership, achievement, and success

Creature of the Sun Lord, beloved of the Lady,
Reveal to me the ancient methods of magic.
Walk beside me as I grow in strength and courage.
Show me when to keep ties strong
and when to break them.
Help me to understand the times for work
and the times for rest.
Mighty lion, lend me your energies.

The Lion is the symbol of the sun and of gold.
Medieval alchemists associated Lion with sulfur.
A Lion totem presents a lesson in dealing with groups and your role within those groups.
It is a totem for avoiding confrontations and for stealth.
Take the easy way to meet your goals; do not confront them head on.
A Lion totem tells you to trust your feminine energies –
creativity, intuition and imagination.
But don’t be afraid to roar if threatened.

Wonder if Katie Perry has Lion as an ally?

I is for Ibex

IBEX energy is a support when you need to feel secure and balanced.

Ibex as a power animal would be very helpful if your life mission is to eg climb Mt Everest, literally or metaphorically.

It is helpful when dealing with teens..nudging them in a helpful direction rather than locking horns with them

Ibex is a kind of goat,  sometimes called the Rock Goat, or Wild Goat. It resembles the common goat, but is larger and its horns are much longer; they are sometimes more than a yard in length, beautifully curved, and surrounded by many curious rings or ridges.

It lives in places where you would think no animal could get without falling and breaking its neck; you would be frightened to see it sometimes, when it climbs up rough and narrow places, or jumps from one great rock to another. But nature has given it just such a kind of foot as it needs; it has a small hoof, something like those of a sheep, excepting that it is hollow underneath, and has a sort of ridge around it by which the animal can cling to the rock, and so keep from slipping. I never heard of such a thing as one of them sliding off the rocks, unless it was pursued by the hunters.

Two goats once met on a high narrow path, where there was just room for one to walk. There was a high rock rising close to their shoulders on one side, and on the other was a place so steep that it would have made you dizzy to look down. They could not go back without danger of falling, and they could not pass each other; what do you think they could do, but stay there and starve? It seemed for a little while as if they were considering about it; at last one bent his knees and laid down, and the other walked safely over his back.

The ibex feeds during the night in the highest woods that grow on the mountains; but as soon as the sun rises it begins to climb, eating the grass or whatever it finds, till it has got up where it is too high for trees to grow. They go in small companies of eight or ten, and lie down in sunny places among the rocks while the sun is hot; but about three or four o'clock in the afternoon they begin to go down again towards the woods. They can climb up rather more easily than they can get down, because their fore legs are shorter than the others.

G is for Giraffe

Giraffe is a gentle creature who sees life from a unique perspective.
The tallest of the animals, she is afforded a view from an exceptional height, while her broad stance maintains her strong connection to the earth.
Giraffe has a huge heart, and with all her being, she perceives heart’s dimension, seeing and feeling the heart connections between herself and the entire web of life.
In leading you on this journey, she gives you an opportunity to ask for help and cooperation.
She knows that there are only loving relationships in the realm of the heart, relationships in which each being nurtures the flame of every other being.

Although related to the dimension of words and actions, the dimension of the heart is completely independent.
Giraffe reminds us to make regular trips to the heart dimension to honour and affirm this network of loving light. The more we practice viewing our everyday communications and interactions within the context of this loving web, the more accessible, and clearly manifest the network becomes.

Giraffe also bestows this gift: the knowledge that your heart is a place in which only truth can reside. Whenever you speak to another being, a simultaneous conversation takes place in the heart dimension. It is a conversation of truth, and this, from the perspective of your soul, is what truly matters.

Each of us has at least one, and more commonly a number of power animal  helpers waiting for us. To find them and ask for their assistance, we often journey to the shamanic lower world. They want to help us and bring their special powers to us . They can also travel with us, guiding, protecting, and providing us with information. As is the case with our upper world teachers, these animals may also test you to determine the sincerity of your bond with them and the purity of your heart.

FOX as Power Animal

Utilize all your resources, the seen and the unseen in order to accomplish your goal today
-Fox

If Fox has made an appearance in your life;

The solution to a problem is at hand. The Fox spirit is the grand problem solver. She will guide you to solitude and silence until the way out is shown. A healthy combination of persistence and patience will strike a balance that picks apart a problem until it is solved.
Alternatively, are you having trouble adjusting to a new living situation or job? Do you feel like you’re barely scraping by? When sly Fox crosses your path it can be a signal to open your eyes, so that you can see the situation for what it is – not as you wish it to be.
When a situation or environment is difficult allow yourself to be fluid and adaptable. You have all the tools and resources you need to turn money, career, or living difficulties around.

If Fox is your Animal Totem:

You are intensely loyal. Often you are a joy to watch or to be around. You are energetic, outgoing, personable, and very flattering. While not exactly social butterflies fox people can use that sly energy, their keen sense of camouflage to “fit right in”. You are also a keen observer and skilled at remaining unnoticed. This means that you blend into your environment and move around unnoticed in any kind of company or society.
You adapt and portray yourself as whoever you need to be in a given interaction. This affinity for fitting in often means you are a jack of all trades, taking interest and educating yourself superficially in great number of areas while mastering none. This allows you to chat or small talk with ease whenever you care to. This does not mean you are disingenuous. It simply means that you really do care and take an active interest in the feelings of those around you.
You are also a very creative problem solver and can seem eccentric because they are quick to think outside the box. Quick thinking or wit is definitely common tool for you.

If Fox has come to visit you in your Dreams;

Perhaps you need to conceal your thoughts and be more discrete about some situation. The fox may also symbolize someone in your waking life who is sly and sneaky. Alternatively, seeing a fox in your dream indicates a period of isolation or loneliness. You need to take this time to ponder some issue or reflect upon your life. The dream could also be a metaphor for someone who is a “fox”, as in a foxy lady.
To dream that a fox is flying into your window means that you need to be careful with who you trust. Someone in your waking life is up to no good.

  • Sea Eel,-- Male sexuality, ability to watch unseen, escape when threatened, electricity, awakening of the Kundalini energy, a great spiritual transformation, a life at sea
  • Moray Eel -- Observation, watching for opportunities, unusual partnerships and on-again-off-again relationships

Each of us has at least one, and more commonly a number of such spirit helpers waiting for us.

Do you have an affinity with a particular kind of animal?

Cat as Power Animal

The Great Teacher of Magic and Mystery; the cat lives totally in the moment with a deep psychic and spiritual awareness. Independent and unpredictable, agile of body and mind, a free thinker that meets challenges by perceiving the unseen.-One cannot own a cat; the cat will give and receive love only on its own terms.
At home in the dark of the night it is a valuable ally when encountering the supernatural and facing your primal fears.
As the cats energy field flows opposite that of humans it has the healing ability to neutralize your negative energies. The healing energy cannot be taken from the cat, it is only given as a gift.
The cat teaches that the physical and spiritual worlds are not separate, but one. In ancient Egypt cats stood guard at the temple gates and throughout history cats have been seen as the protectors of the pathways to the sacred mysteries. (The Egyptian goddess-'Bastet'-takes the form of a cat. The Norse goddess 'Freyja' rides a chariot pulled by two cats)
Note the colours and characteristics of your cat for that shall be mirrored in your life and will help you to understand the mysteries that your cat will reveal. (The cat's karmic sacrifice is being the victim of kick the cat.)

Cat Spirit often brings the warning of being the recipient of misdirected anger. -
Cats in the home often serve the role of healer and will sit near anyone in the household who needs healing, speeding the recovery period.
A cat's purring can help reduce his owner's stress or anxieties.
Cat purring can ease discomforts such as stomach pain, and also help boost immune systems. It is also important to pay attention to the health of your cat. Cats will often take on the symptoms of ailments being suffered by their humans.
When this happens, appreciate their talents as diagnosticians, so take heed. Get your cat to the vet AND make an appointment for yourself to have a health checkup.
